Have you read the book Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins? ConnTrek was inspired by that very book. The 50 children in grades 4-6 who chose to participate will walk 10 to 15 miles each day. Our wonderful hikers are from Griswold Elementary and Middle Schools and the Regional Multicultural Magnet School in New London. They are giving up their first week of summer vacation to make a difference, one step at a time.
Where do the kids sleep? They camp out at designated campsites each night. As they trek across Connecticut, kids will have a great time during the first week of their summer vacation. Like the nine previous ConnTreks, kids get sponsors for walking about 100 miles. Altogether the previous nine ConnTreks have raised more than $121,000 for charity. ConnTrek has raised money for charities such as On-Site Academy, The March of Dimes, The American Cancer Society, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, The Alzheimer’s Association, and the On-Site Academy.
Our theme for this year’s ConnTrek is “Hikers Helping Heroes” This year we are walking to raise money to benefit The Connecticut National Guard Foundation, an organization that provides financial assistance to CT national guard members in need.
Please help ConnTrek kids change America, one step at a time.
